ESDC released communication today about the department’s plans around Budget 2025. As part of that communication, they announced that workforce adjustment will be starting in the new year. At this point, we do not know how many positions or who will be affected, only that announcements will come in January.

As your union, our first priority is you. We will support you through every step of this process and we will not accept these cuts as “business as usual.” When the process begins, your first point of contact will be your Management and Human Resources team. On the union side, you can find additional support from your local. You may also choose to reach out to your National Vice-President.

Today, we are including the resources that we have created regarding WFA. You can find everything from training slide decks to FAQs at this link. They will help you find answers to your initial questions. PSAC has also released a new video about the WFA process. Term members can find a specific FAQ at this link

We will host a town hall for affected members in the new year, once the formal announcement is made and more information is available.

We have also been informed that the Pension Centre has identified members it believes are eligible for the retirement initiative. To check, you must log into the pension portal and click on “Messages,” even if it does not show that you have new messages. They are also expected to send letters by mail.

In the meantime, solidarity is more important than ever. Talk to each other. Check in on your co-workers and your stewards. Attend local meetings. Participate in actions that your local and regional leaders organize. When we act together, we protect one another’s jobs, we defend the services our communities rely on, and we show the employer and the public that there is strength in numbers.

In solidarity,

Your National President,

Rubina Boucher (she/her)
