Equity & Human Rights
Equity & Human Rights
CEIU is committed to fighting racism, colonialism, and oppression, and promoting employment equity in the workplaces that we represent, within our own union and in society at large. And while we have made inroads on some equity issues, we still do not have equality. Instead, in our workplaces and elsewhere, systemic racism and oppression continues.
As a union, we commit to taking an activist approach to fight against oppression and racism in our workplaces and our union. This includes:
- taking action to support decolonization and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples
- developing strategies to eliminate systemic barriers, with the involvement of our members
- prioritizing the engagement of Black and racialized members, women, Indigenous members, members with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQIA+ members
- putting anti-racism and anti-oppression on the bargaining agenda
- ensuring that CEIU meetings and events are organized and conducted in an accessible way and that all of our communications are accessible
- creating an effective process for resolving concerns and complaints that may arise from members’ experience of unfair, inequitable, or oppressive treatment within the union
- providing financial and human resources to support CEIU’s commitment to anti-oppression
