Holiday rest for the year ahead

Dear CEIU members,

As we close out 2025, we do so in a climate of uncertainty and resilience. This year has brought significant challenges to our union and the broader public service.

And still, you showed up. You delivered essential services with professionalism and care. You supported coworkers. You organized, raised concerns, and refused to let fear isolate you. This is what solidarity looks like.

CEIU has also kept moving. We demanded clarity and accountability. We defended programs Canadians rely on. We pushed back on staffing decisions made without transparency. We worked with PSAC and the broader labour movement because when workers act together, we win.

We saw real wins and reasons for hope. Members showed up in large numbers in Montreal this past November to defend workers’ rights. We advanced our work through policy grievances and by building stronger structures with the employer, including the establishment of national union-management committees.

We also kept equity and inclusion at the centre of our work, because cuts never land evenly. CEIU’s membership includes many equity-deserving workers, including women, Indigenous, Black and racialized members, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQIA+ members.

This holiday season, we want to pause and acknowledge your strength, solidarity, and commitment. Every member has played a role in keeping our union united and our voices heard. Whether through organizing, supporting colleagues, or simply showing up with courage in uncertain times, you have embodied the spirit of CEIU.

As we enter 2026, CEIU will not accept these cuts as business as usual. We will continue to organize and fight for good jobs, fair workplaces, and a public service that reflects the people it serves.

When we stand together, we can defend not only the public service, but also the values of fairness, dignity, and respect in the workplace.

For now, we hope you can rest. Spend time with loved ones. Take care of yourself and each other. When you return, stay connected to your coworkers and your CEIU union local.

On behalf of the CEIU National Executive, we wish you and your loved ones a peaceful holiday season and a hopeful New Year.

In solidarity,

Rubina Boucher, Your CEIU National President

Helen King, Your CEIU National Executive Vice-President
