CEIU joins those across the world in marking the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence from November 25 to December 10.

This international campaign begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (Nov. 25) and ends on International Human Rights Day (Dec. 10).

It includes several significant dates, including:

  • Nov. 25. International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
  • Nov. 29. International Women Human Rights Defenders Day
  • Dec. 3. International Day of Persons with Disabilities
  • Dec. 6. National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women (École Polytechnique massacre)
  • Dec. 10. International Human Rights Day

We reaffirm CEIU’s commitment to ending intimate partner violence (IPV) in all its forms, at home, in our communities, and in our workplaces.

Take action to help raise awareness

CEIU encourages all members to:

  • Participate in local events, vigils, webinars, and actions against gender-based violence
  • Raise awareness about IPV in workplaces and communities
  • Wear purple or other symbols of support
  • Share campaign materials
  • Add the CEIU Frame on your social media profile

Share your photos to win a prize

The CEIU National Women’s Committee wants to see your activism in action!

We’re asking all members to show up, speak out, and snap a few photos while you’re at it.

We invite members to share photos with us of how they are taking action, attending events, wearing purple, displaying signs, organizing workplace actions, and/or helping spread awareness (you decide how you wish to participate).

Use the hashtag #CEIU16Days

Use the hashtag on Instagram or send us your pictures between November 25 and December 10, and you could receive a fabulous gift from Poppies and Peonies, a Métis female-founded, cruelty-free Canadian accessory brand that’s all about empowering women and giving back.

They’ve raised over $35,000 for the Indian Residential School Survivors Society and continue to support women’s shelters across Canada.

If your name is drawn, you’ll get to pick the bag of your choice (Max $125 value) because purses are more than just accessories. They’re how we carry our power, our snacks, and everything else that pockets forgot.

Let’s lift each other up and maybe score a beautiful bag in the process.

Photos can be sent to: brettm@ceiu-seic.ca

Deadline: end of day December 10, 2025.

All participants will be entered into a random draw for a great prize!

Together, we make workplaces and communities safer

The 16 Days of Activism is a reminder that gender-based violence is not inevitable – it is preventable.

Through education, advocacy, and collective action, CEIU continues to work toward workplaces and communities that are safe, respectful, and inclusive for everyone.

Thank you for showing up, raising your voice, and taking action.

While this is a time for remembering the lives lost to violence, it is also a time to act.
