The CEIU Deputy Trustees met in person in Ottawa on July 13-14, 2016.

The CEIU Trustee, Chris Aylward, reminded the Deputy Trustees that the CEIU financial system continues to be reviewed and improved, which includes the centralization of the finances in order to allow for greater accountability and transparency. He further confirmed that there only remain two outstanding complaints still under investigation filed in 2015 and early 2016.

For the past few months, CEIU Deputy Trustees have been turning their minds to exploring new membership based governance structures for the organization, including a different National Executive structure. Consideration was given regarding representation of our equity seeking groups, the three Departments represented by CEIU, and a general reflection on the roles and responsibilities of CEIU elected officers. Constant consideration was given towards structural reforms that would improve services to the members. At this July meeting, CEIU Deputy Trustees came to an agreement on a proposed structure that will, in the coming weeks and months, be provided to the members of CEIU for their input and consideration.

As a result of these considerations, a review of By-laws is being conducted, with the aim of proposing appropriate amendments.

A Convention will be held from February 6 to February 9, 2017 at the Lac Leamy Hilton in Gatineau, Québec.

Further details will be provided as the Deputy Trustees work through the decision making process.
