Coming Up on May 17: International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

May 17 of every year is International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT).  It is a rallying event offering an opportunity for people to get together and reach out to one another.

In Canada, Fondation Émergence promotes the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia and encourages organizations and individuals to highlight this event in their environment.

The 2018 campaign focuses on LGBT+ rights around the world. This campaign was made with Canadian refugees who left their countries because of their homophobic and transphobic laws.

Every year, the condition of LGBT+ people around the world tends to improve. Activists and allies from all over the globe have made this progress possible, and are still working on moving forward. However, these advances are not evenly distributed: in many countries, it is still dangerous to show one’s true colours.

Click the “I’m In” banner at  to order free display materials, and learn about activities, actions, and tools that can be utilized on May 17.  We ask that you join in solidarity with your LGBT+ brothers and sisters and proudly celebrate this day in your workplace and in your community!
