CEIU files a Policy Grievance

The hours of work at the Service Canada EI Call Centre in Edmonton, Alberta has been changed by the employer who introduced new rotating hours of work without consultation with the Union.  The employer also failed to establish that this change is required to meet the needs of the public and/or the efficient operation of the service.

This is in contravention of Article 25 (hours of work) and all related articles of the PA Collective Agreement.  The unilateral decision to introduce new rotating hours of work violates the terms and conditions of the collective agreement and the employer’s action constitutes bad faith in respect of the consultation process and denies employees their collective agreement rights.

The Union is asking that the employer cease the new rotating hours of work immediately.  Robert Strang, the CEIU National Union Representative for the Alberta Region will be representing our members on this policy grievance.

CEIU will post updates regarding this grievance as it progresses so that our members are aware of what is transpiring with its Employer.
