Sign of the times

CEIU members in Gander, Newfoundland, are facing the closure of their EI processing operation and had been pressing MP Peter Penashue for a meeting to enlist his support. Penashue, the only Conservative MP in Newfoundland & Labrador, had not returned any of the calls from Gander Local President Carl Waterman, but that suddenly changed.

“It changed when the union put up a billboard in Gander,” said National Vice-President Tony White, “the phone from Penashue’s office rang an hour later. Funny how that works.” The billboard reads:

are as Canadian as
my morning coffee!

Let’s keep EI processing in Gander

Wake up MP Peter Penashue at 709-927-5210

The meeting with Penashue is expected to take place later in December. “We’ll see what happens,” said White, “but it’s great to see how working with our PSAC Area Council can get things moving.”

Here is the sign that caught MP Penashue’s attention.
