Urgent, immediate action needed from walk-in and phone unit SDA-IIs

There’s some positive news for Service Canada’s 800 Service Delivery Agent IIs who recently learned that senior management had reneged on their prior written commitment to classify and pay these employees properly.

These employees were formerly members of the National Health Union and are now members of the CEIU.

The bargaining agent – the Public Service Alliance of Canada – is launching a policy grievance with the Public Service Labour Relations Board. But, time is of the essence!

Earlier this month, Service Canada sent these SDA-IIs a formal letter informing them that they would not be paid for work done from 1996 to 2005 as per the third level grievance decision signed off four years ago by Phil Jensen, then Assistant Deputy Minister of the People and Culture Branch.

How, we urgently need all the affected SDA-IIs to fax a copy of their letter, along with their name and e-mail address to the NHU National Office at 613- 237-6954. Please do this immediately!

If you are affected, but either did not receive, have lost or have thrown out the letter, please in any case send us your name and e-mail address. Similarly, if you know of any retirees who should be receiving this information, please pass it on to them.

While these former Income Security Program workers are no longer NHU members, we agreed to continue to pursue the grievance when the SDA-II’s and other ISP workers were transferred in 2007 to their new PSAC Component, the Canada Employment and Immigration Union.
