As members at Service Canada continue to face high EI workloads, they witness their term staff go out the door at the same time as the employer pushes for more overtime. This is not the way to provide decent service to the public or to run an organization.
Members left to face the EI backlogs are being approached for more overtime work, with some receiving a mandatory direction for extra hours. Where mandatory overtime is called, the union recommends members perform the work but grieve the order.
The non-renewal of term employees hurts these members individually and the organization overall. Without enough hands, the work just cannot get done in an effective and efficient way. The public deserves better, and so do our members at Service Canada.
