CEIU members in Nova Scotia have learned that a labour market agreement is very close. Negotiators for the governments of Canada and Nova Scotia are working out final details, and the signing of the agreement is expected soon after. With the agreement in place, attention will shift to the negotiation of an Employee Transfer Agreement (ETA).
The ETA will set out the terms under which affected staff will move to the province, and the CEIU will be active player in its development. CEIU will support members’ participation in the ETA process and, as a first step, is providing additional information around pension and other critical issues.
The PSAC has prepared two documents on the pension issue. The first is a chart comparing federal and Nova Scotia pension schemes. A companion document, in question-and-answer format, explores pension issues in scenarios typically faced by members.
A third document compares key features of the PA collective agreement covering affected employees and the agreement between the government of Nova Scotia and the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union (NSGEU). Together, these three documents will assist members in playing an informed role in the ETA process.
Nova Scotia NVP Theresa MacInnis is encouraging members to keep informed by reviewing the information available on the CEIU web site, saying "We want our members who are moving to the province to make the transition on the most favourable terms possible and we will continue to keep members updated as information becomes available."
National President Jeannette Meunier-McKay applauded the work of the region around the labour market agreement and the ETA, noting “The Nova Scotia region of CEIU has been on top of this issue from the start, and the affected members will clearly benefit as a result.”
