Charters awarded to locals in Quebec City and Hamilton

New locals joining CEIU in Quebec City and Hamilton recently received their official charters from National President Jeannette Meunier-McKay. Along with the charter presentations came lively discussions of classification issues and the tentative contract agreement with the Treasury Board.

In Quebec City, Local President Mona Labbé accepted the charter for local 10472 on behalf of her members. As well as serving as local president, sister Labbé was also elected as a delegate to the CEIU Triennial Convention in September.

Hamilton Local President Donna Kinchen accepted the charter for local 649. Like Labbé, Kinchen also served as a delegate to the recent CEIU convention.

Staff at the two locals were former members of the National Health and Welfare Union, and President Meunier-McKay used the charter ceremonies to extend an additional message of welcome to them. “I am extremely pleased to be working with these locals” she said, “and am happy they are participating so strongly in the life of our union.”
