CEIU welcomes new Timmins local

Local 650 became the latest local to receive its CEIU charter at a recent meeting of its general membership. National President Jeannette Meunier-McKay welcomed the former NHWU members to the CEIU and invited their active participation in the life of their new organization.

In her comments to the meeting, Jeannette said “As a northerner, I’m particularly happy to welcome Local 650 to CEIU.  We need to work together to make our union stronger and I look forward to doing just that with your support.”

Local President Andrea Villeneuve addressed the meeting and commented, “My contact with CEIU and their Ontario union office has been very good so far. They get right back with answers to my questions and have been extremely supportive.”

Alan Lennon, Senior Union Representative from CEIU’s Ontario Regional Office, introduced the members to the servicing and support offered by CEIU staff, including representation, training and assistance with local organizing.

Also attending were CEIU National Vice-President Paul Soeiro, CEIU Alternate National Vice-President Cathy Malone and Northern District Representative Linda Eade.

Local 650 has approximately 130 members who process CPP and OAS files.
