Respect for human rights is critical to workplace fairness, and the pursuit of human rights takes many shapes. The struggle — and eventual victory — for pay equity is an outstanding example of salary fairness in the workplace. So too is the case of Bonnie Robichaud who successfully pursued her sexual harassment case to the Supreme Court of Canada.
Both the CEIU and the PSAC pursue human rights objectives within their union structures. The CEIU has a National Vice-President, Human Rights and a Human Rights/Race Relations Committee. The PSAC has a number of bodies working on human rights concerns and publishes policies and other documents dealing with the broad range of issues connected to this topic. All of these efforts are geared to building an environment that supports and advances human rights.
This section of the website offers information on activities related to human rights as well as practical guides on topics such as human rights grievancess and the duty to accommodate. Action and awareness are needed to ensure that human rights remain a vibrant part of the workplace, the union and society at large. Visit these pages often and add your effort to building the culture and practice of human rights.
