CEIU members in the CR group have gained a wide-ranging classification upgrade at the Immigration and Refugee Board. Many of the gains went to CR 03′s who moved up to the CR 04 level, while others at the CR 04 level became CR 05′s.
About 300 CR’s were upgraded, with only four remaining at level. Retroactivity will extend to June 28, 2002.
The upgrades came via a department-wide classification review that became known as the "Classification Strategy". The review of CR positions is the first of three phases; remaining positions are to be reviewed by September 2005.
CEIU National Vice-president (IRB) Stephen Purcell welcomed the news but noted that the review took far longer to complete than most had expected. He remains optimistic that the second and third phases of the classification review will be carried out in a more timely fashion.
