Established at the union’s 1990 convention, CEIU’s Human Rights / Race Relations Committee began its work early in the following year. The Committee will make a special presentation at the union’s upcoming convention in September to showcase its achievements and encourage wider participation in its activities.
Meeting recently in Ottawa, the Committee reviewed their work that included lobbying in the areas of same sex marriage, profiling, employment equity and transgender rights. They also identified the CEIU convention as an opportunity to raise the profile of their work as they celebrate the Committee’s twentieth anniversary. Delegates and observers to the convention can look forward to stimulating presentations and discussions on a wide scope of human rights issues.
