In Memoriam

Long time CEIU staff representative Harry O’Brien passed away on March 10, his 76th birthday. CEIU members and staff offer their condolences to his wife Muriel and his entire family.

Harry was a leader at local 80221 (Kentville, NS) in ESSENA, one of CEIU’s predecessor organizations, and in 1972 became its first staff representative for Atlantic Canada. The staff complement grew in the years that followed and Harry became the Senior Representative responsible for union staff in the Atlantic region. He is remembered as a skilled and supportive mentor and an effective advocate for the members he served.

Harry retired in 1999 but remained active in his community. He was the Past President of both the Yarmouth and Riverview Lions Clubs and chaired numerous committees within them. An avid sportsman in his youth, he remained active in his retirement when his interest turned to golf. Those who knew him well will remember Harry as a life-long lover of dancing and good fun, and will commemorate these qualities, and many more, at a celebration of his life to be held Saturday March 14 at the Riverview Lions Club. Online condolences can be offered at www.tuttlefuneralhome.ca
