CEIU members in Quebec, the National Capital Region and the Prairies elected to PSAC positions

At PSAC conventions in Quebec, the National Capital Region and the Prairies, CEIU members won positions in their regional Alliance structures and were honoured for their contribution to the union.

In Quebec, three CEIU members joined the PSAC Quebec Regional Council. Yolande Dostie is Regional Council President for Estrie/Bois-Francs, Carlin Doutre is Regional Council President for Laval/Laurentides/Lanaudière/Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Nicole Fréchette becomes Regional Council Vice-President for Saguenay/Lac St-Jean/Chibougamau/Chapais.

Elections at the National Capital Regional convention saw CEIU member Les Maiczan elected for a two-year term as a Member at Large.

In the Prairies region, Susan Norman was elected as Area Council Representative for western Manitoba.

National President Jeannette Meunier-McKay offered her congratulations to all of the CEIU members who were successful at the regional PSAC conventions. “We have many talented members,” she said, “and it’s great to see them making a contribution to the PSAC in their region.”

At the Prairies regional convention, CEIU National Vice-President Don Rogers was awarded 2011 PSAC Prairie Spirit Award for Mentorship. Brother Rogers was nominated for the award by the Manitoba CEIU Regional Council that listed a number of reasons in support of its nomination of Brother Don as an outstanding mentor which included “He helps you to become familiar with the Union”, “He shares his own experiences when applicable and appropriate” and “Makes referrals to additional resources when appropriate”. In support of his nomination, five Manitoba CEIU Regional Council Members provided endorsements, including “He suggests to you which union course you should take to benefit your membership and to enhance your abilities as a Local President or Executive member.”

The National President congratulated Brother Rogers, saying “This is an important award and I look forward to working with Don as Manitoba NVP for many years to come.”
