The union pushes the 3 Departments to set up national workforce adjustment committees

We are all very apprehensive about the impacts of the upcoming budget of the federal government which will include drastic cuts to the federal public service necessarily affecting a number of our members. A few months ago, every Department was required to prepare for two scenarios, one for a 5% decrease in expenditures and the other for a 10% decrease.

New transit ad campaign exposes Service Canada woes

WINNIPEG, MB – The Canada Employment and Immigration Union (CEIU) and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) are launching a new transit advertising campaign today that sheds light on the disturbing effects of service cuts to Canadians.

Pressure builds on government as EI delays continue

The New Year for EI claimants is beginning in the same way as the old year ended: cheques are not arriving and call centre lines are jammed. Media interest persists, to the government’s dismay, and the public weighs in on the EI processing disaster through comments at news sites. CEIU is keeping up its efforts for both a decent level of service to the public and a manageable workload for its members.

EI claimants turn to welfare in the face of processing delays

A huge backlog has forced EI claimants to seek help at the welfare office, making the holiday season even more stressful and frustrating. For claimants, the New Year does not promise to be a good one so far, with the responsible Minister, Diane Finley, re-cycling her tired line that the ongoing automation of the processing system will save the day.
