Members again showed their support as their negotiating team heads for four days of bargaining at the PA table. The PA team meets with the Treasury Board October 6 to 9 and members are looking for a serious offer from the employer.
In the spring, the employer offered a four year deal with increases of 1.5% in 2007, 1.5% in 2008, 1.2% in 2009 and 1.2% in 2010. The offer did not include any adjustments to pay scale increments or allowances—just a low-ball salary proposal. Members saw the offer for what it was: an insult.
The bargaining team will again be pressing the Treasury Board for a decent offer and members showed their support in advance of the October negotiating sessions. In Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, CEIU members called for a fair contract as they demonstrated in front of their workplace. Members at Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, sent the same message to the employer as they took to the streets in front of their workplace. Across the country, the PSAC reported members taking similar action in support of their bargaining teams.
“We want a fair contract, nothing more and nothing less—and our members’ actions over the last 16 months show we’re determined to get it” said National President Jeannette Meunier-McKay.
