June 19: members to send message to Treasury Board

Employer’s offer won’t pay the bills

Members will send the Treasury Board a message on June 19 to get serious about a fair agreement. After a year without a new contract and an insulting pay offer, members are fed up with the performance of the employer at the bargaining table.

Negotiations have been underway for over a year, but progress has been slow—to say the least. Much of the time was spent getting the employer to drop proposals for contract concessions, which does no more than put us back to where we started a year ago. When the employer finally tabled a pay offer it did not even come close to paying for the increase members face at the gas pump and grocery store.

“If the Treasury Board had wanted an agreement, we would have had it long ago” said CEIU President Jeannette Meunier-McKay, “but when there isn’t the motivation to reach a new contract, we have push the employer to get serious.” Members from one end of the country to the other will have the chance to motivate the employer on June 19.

The PSAC is organizing a national day of action for June 19 and all locals and members are asked to participate. For more information and resources, local leaders can contact their nearest PSAC regional office.
