Call for bargaining proposals

Bargaining begins in 2007 and CEIU members have an opportunity to submit proposals for an improved contract. Members also have the chance to rate the importance of the various bargaining issues. Local unions are asked to take immediate steps to obtain members’ input for the coming round of bargaining.

Submitting proposals and rating the issues is not complicated. The PSAC has already sent a document titled Program of Demands to CEIU locals that explains the steps to follow. If you have not received a copy of this document, you can get one at the CEIU national website.

Local leaders will find the Program of Demands document useful for discussing negotiations with their members. The document discusses the different types of bargaining proposals and explains the process for submitting new proposals to the union.

Input from the local level is vital. It gives members greater ownership over the bargaining process and strengthens our hand with the employer. Local leaders are asked to give a priority to seeking member input for this round of bargaining and are invited to contact CEIU National Vice-Presidents and Regional Union Offices for any assistance they require.

Please ensure that you provide your local input to the CEIU national office by the deadline date of November 20, 2006. Here is the contact information:

Winning a good contract is important for all of us. It starts with solid input from the local level and I look forward to receiving your contribution.

In solidarity,
