All Local managers have had their designation lists for at least a month. The position number is the key to whether or not a member is designated. It is the position which the member occupies that determines the designation.
Remember that the original designation process took place over the last twelve months. You may have occupied a designated position at that time. However, if any member has changed jobs or is doing a different job currently, then the letter of designation which he or she has received may no longer apply.
Just because you are designated does not excuse you from strike activity. The designated worker must be more controlled in any supportive activity. However, visible actions like contributing a day’s pay to the Local Strike Fund and solidarity picketing will consolidate the Local’s strike plan. In addition, designates may serve as communicators for the outside strikers and organize internal action.
The designated worker has been designated for specific duties. No other duties should be performed willingly.
In action there is strength. If all members make a contribution to a strike, we will be stronger and more unified after the strike is won. Please find attached a letter for the designates.
In solidarity,
Jeannette Meunier-McKay,
National President
