Revised salary positions

On Sunday September 19, the union and the employer revised their salary positions at the conciliation board hearings. The union’s Table 1 bargaining team worked hard at finding a fair compromise, but the employer increased its offer by only a pathetically small degree.

The union’s pay proposal is now the following:

• 21 June 2003: increment plus 3.5% economic increase.
• 21 June 2004: 3.25% economic increase.
• 21 June 2005: 3.25% economic increase.
• 21 June 2006: 2% economic increase.

The employer revised its position as follows:

• 21 June 2003: 2.25% economic increase.
• 21 June 2004: 1.75% economic increase.
• 21 June 2005: 1.75% economic increase.

Few words are needed for the employer’s proposal: clearly unacceptable.

Following the release of the Conciliation Board report, there may be opportunities for further negotiations with the employer. If there are, your bargaining team will be ready to meet.
