Pressure works – keep it up

Pressure brings employers back to the bargaining table – nothing else. Striking PSAC members have contributed heavily to that pressure, but so have Table 1 members. Showing we’re ready to strike sends the message that more trouble is coming for the government if it fails to make a reasonable offer. Now is not the time to relax that pressure: we must keep it up until we get a contract.

CEIU locals across the country have been sending the “Strike Ready” message to the employer. Raising union visibility in the workplace with buttons and signs, supporting the picket lines of PSAC groups already on strike, local strike preparation meetings, noon-hour demonstrations and other actions have been successful. Keep it up!

The government has only offered to talk again, and while that’s a start, it is just a start. We need a decent offer, and to get it we need to maintain the pressure.

The best way to avoid a strike is to show we are prepared to strike
