Picket line procedure

CEIU members may encounter picket lines set up by striking PSAC members from the Canada Revenue Agency and Parks Canada. If so, don’t be distracted by management scare tactics about loss of pay and discipline. Here is what you can do to support the strikers and guard against employer action towards you.

The first step is to respect the picket line. Next, ask the picket captain for his/her permission and best advice on how to cross the line. If there is a large line-up or a confrontation, you have the right to leave the area, call your senior manager and tell him/her that you tried to report for work but were unable to do so. The manager has to respect that you have concerns for your own safety and assist you in reporting for work with an escort into the building or make some alternate arrangements for your work.

If more help is needed, call the CEIU or PSAC office in your area.
