Message from national president, CEIU

As the national president of CEIU, I want to thank each and every member for the work you contributed to our strike. While we cannot be satisfied with the situation as it has unfolded, we should be proud of the powerful strike action taken by CEIU locals across the country.

In the weeks leading up to the strike, locals showed extraordinary energy and determination as they prepared for action. When the strike call was made, members moved ahead, without hesitation, and put intense pressure on the employer. Where problems developed with strike operations, members found their own creative solutions to them. All of these ingredients are needed for successful strike action, and members can take pride in having delivered them.

I also want to thank local leaders, members of the national executive and CEIU staff for their contribution. Without their support, the strike could not have been as vigorous as it was.

Our fight for a fair collective agreement is not yet over, and I am confident that we can work together in the coming weeks as effectively as we did in recent days. We will need our best efforts to get an improved collective agreement from this government.

While I have always been proud to be your national president, I have never been prouder than over the past weeks. In plain, honest terms: you took on an extremely difficult job, and did it well. Thank you again.

In solidarity,

Jeannette Meunier-McKay
National President
