Getting ready in S.S. Marie and North Bay

No contract, no overtime work. That’s what CEIU locals in Sault Ste. Marie and North Bay have decided. At a recent meeting in the Sault, members agreed unanimously to take the action. The next day they followed up with e-mails to their manager explaining that they were not available for overtime work.

Members in the Sault are helping striking Parks and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) workers too. CEIU members are refusing to cross a CRA picket line to enter their parking lot and are requesting a management escort through the lines.

At the Sault canal, CEIU local members joined striking PSAC Parks Canada members. “They’re paving the way for us at Table 1″ said CEIU Local 566 president Connie Lento. In her view, that makes supporting Parks workers both the right thing to do and the strategic thing to do.
