Getting ready at national headquarters

In Ottawa, union visibility is crucial. The government needs to see that we’re ready for action if a decent contract offer is not made. CEIU Local 70704 is boosting that union visibility as we draw closer to strike action by Table 1 members.

According to local vice-president, Tony Nicolas, members are increasing the union’s presence in the workplace so that cabinet members and other members of parliament get the message. “We are heightening our visibility” he said, “Everyone in government will know that we’re ready to do what’s needed for a fair agreement.”

The strike structure is in place and the local’s treasury will be adding a $50 per day top-up to the PSAC’s strike pay. “We always pull things together here at national headquarters” says Nicolas, “We did last time – and we’re ready this time.”
