Strike preparation was high on the agenda at the September meeting of the CEIU national executive. On the recommendation of the national president, the union will provide each national vice-president with additional travel funds ($2000) to visit and support picket lines when the strike begins. In addition, the national office will cover 50% of the cost for weekly teleconferences between national vice-presidents and the local leaders in their region.
The increased contact with locals is aimed at tightening support for locals in the strike period. Most CEIU locals are well-prepared, according to National President Jeannette Meunier-McKay, “but we will make sure members and local leaders get the reinforcement they need from the national level.”
